Mortar

Mortar is a mixture of sand, cement/lime and water for joint masonry unit. It seals gaps to resist wind and rain penetration meanwhile leveling and seating the units providing an aesthetic structure. The major requirement of mortar is able to support weight, homogenous aggregate, adhere to face unit, permit movement, durable, water resisting, and not stronger than bricks.

Types of mortar are sand, hydraulic, ordinary Portland cement, masonry cement, sulphate resisting cement, non-hydraulic lime and air-entrainer.
